2013 Year in Review

Our 2013 Year in Review has been published. We set out to provide high-quality legal services for low income families and deepen our connections with the medical and legal professions, and we exceeded all expectations. Some highlights:

  • Healthcare providers at University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics and Kosair Children’s Hospital referred over 200 families to Doctors & Lawyers for Kids this year.
  • Doctors & Lawyers for Kids concluded representation of 100 families this year. Twenty-five percent of those families were represented by pro bono attorneys in matters including adoption, immigration, domestic violence, and employment.
  • Dr. Carothers and Andrea Hunt presented at Grand Rounds for the departments of Pediatrics and Family Medicine. Grand Rounds is an important teaching tool and ritual of medical education open to the entire medical professional community, consisting of presenting the newest research and treatments in an area.
  • In July, we expanded to U of L Department of Pediatrics at Kosair Charities, Kosair’s Emergency Department, and the U of L Pediatrics subspecialties.

  • A team from Louisville Bar Association’s Leadership Academy adopted Doctors & Lawyers for Kids as a service project and have provided pro bono legal services in seven legal matters concerning grandparent caregiver status.

We have had a very successful year and look forward to reaching even more families in 2014!
